"My name is Basil Linx and I am the owner and proprietor of Pempamsie a small shop in Brixton. We started originally in 1992 we’ve been going now for 25 years. But we’ve been based in Brixton hill from 1998/99.
We specialise in all products for the African family, whether it be for your health and well being in terms of herbal products or supplements and medicine that are here to deal with all of the issues we suffer from as a community.
From common ailments such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cancers, fibroids, eczema we have natural remedies that deal with all of those things.
We also specialise in hair and body product, these are all products that are chemical free. Everything we stock is chemical free, it is natural.
But we also do books, we do art, we do jewellery, we do clothing we do children’s toys and we also do picture framing, the whole area of culture health and well being is what we specialise in.
When we started out there were a lot of companies competing by selling books and selling black products but we’ve managed to stay afloat and actually doing quite wel. This was done by simply developing our business and diversifying from what we were originally to what we are now.
As we know Brixton is a changing environment there’s lots of gentrification going on not just in brixton but all over London. We’ve noticed particularly in Brixton, our customer base has changed over the years and we now have a wider range of customer.
We are open 6 days week and sometimes int the future we are looking to open 7 days a week. Were open from 9 - 7pm and we’re here to serve you.
So for all your health well being and cultural needs check out Pempamsie." Basil Linx
